Bacon and Darwin Bacon Francis Bacon uses the word idols to explain what is learned filters are applied to the way individuals view their reality. Personally, I believe that the word filters would be much more fitting because it would be less confusing for the reader. He describes each of the idols but for comparison purposes, I am going to compare the cave idol and the theatre idol. The cave idol shows us that we only think in ways that we have been taught, I like to compare this to tunnel vision. The theatre idol shows us things that would not necessarily happen in real life, this leads us to believe that these events are possible. Personally, I would compare the theatre idol to a skewed reality. I believe that Darwin could not say that one idol was more important than another because they each play an important part in an individual's viewpoint.
