Bacon and Darwin
Bacon
Francis Bacon uses the word idols to explain what is learned filters are applied to the way individuals view their reality. Personally, I believe that the word filters would be much more fitting because it would be less confusing for the reader. He describes each of the idols but for comparison purposes, I am going to compare the cave idol and the theatre idol. The cave idol shows us that we only think in ways that we have been taught, I like to compare this to tunnel vision. The theatre idol shows us things that would not necessarily happen in real life, this leads us to believe that these events are possible. Personally, I would compare the theatre idol to a skewed reality. I believe that Darwin could not say that one idol was more important than another because they each play an important part in an individual's viewpoint.
The square idol comes with interaction with others, this expands one's viewpoints and opens their eyes to new possibilities within the world. Upon self-reflection, as a species, we have developed the idol of their kind resulting in comparing everything to our own species. Then comes the question would one be more free of these idols if they were more socialized or less socialized? I believe that if one were move socialized then they would become freer of these idols because they would have the ability to learn from others and expand their leaved mindset.
Darwin
The term the survival of the fittest was not coined by Darwin however, it was quickly associated with his work. Most believe this to mean that the strongest will be on the top of the social pyramid because they have the most money and can afford to stay on the top. However, Darwin was actually speaking of inheritable traits of species as they evolve so that the species survives for the longest time possible. Specifically, he spoke of birds with different sizes of beaks surviving longer because they were move equipped for their environment.
Breeding versus Natural selection, both deal with genetics however one is more controlled than the other. With breeding, you have the ability to control the traits that an expressed via genetic modification. Where Natural selection takes the best course for the species. Then we have the issue of cloning and it goes completely against the views of Darwin's natural selection. Cloning defeats the purpose because it has not evolved at all and it is going to face the same issues as the animal that was used to create it.
Some would believe that our society is making us less fit however I would say that it is making us more fit because we have found ways to remedy even the smallest medical issues.
